Dental Bridges

A bridge can help replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges are created to fill a gap in your smile by attaching to adjacent teeth. This can either be accomplished with a thin metal bar, implants, or crowns.

How Do Dental Bridges Work?

Bridges are used to replace a missing tooth or a section of missing teeth by using the adjacent teeth to hold it in place. The adjacent teeth are prepared in a similar way to the crown procedure. The bridge is bonded on the prepared adjacent teeth, covering the adjacent teeth and replacing the missing teeth at the same time.

In addition to removable bridges, which can be removed and cleaned, there are several types of fixed dental bridges (cannot be removed). The bridge is bonded in so you never have to take it out.

Dental Bridge Procedure

1

Consultation & Preparation

We will will examine your teeth and prepare the abutment teeth by reshaping them for crowns. Impressions are taken to guide the lab in crafting your bridge.

2

Temporary Bridge

A temporary bridge protects the teeth and gums while your permanent bridge is being made.

3

Placement & Adjustment

At your next visit, we will fit and adjust your bridge, ensuring proper bite, comfort, and appearance. A trial run with a temporary adhesive may be used before permanent cementing.

4

Permanent Cementing

After adjustments and placement are made, permanent cementing will be done to firmly lock the dental bridges in place.

How Long Do Dental Bridges Last?

With proper care, a dental bridge can last 5–15 years. Longevity depends on oral hygiene, the type of bridge, and regular dental visits. Ultimately, if you want your dental bridges to be long-lasting, practicing good oral hygiene and visiting our dental clinic regularly will help keep your bridges in good shape.

Caring for Your Dental Bridges

  • Brush and floss daily, paying special attention under the pontic
  • Use spongy floss or Water Pik for cleaning underneath the bridge
  • Regular dental check-ups help maintain the bridge and surrounding teeth
At Shaban Dental Centre, we provide a range of dental bridges designed to replace missing teeth and restore smile function. Our cosmetic bridges services include temporary bridges teeth for short-term needs, as well as long-term options such as resin-bonded bridges, traditional bridges, and cantilever bridges for teeth. Each treatment is carefully planned to support comfort, appearance, and long-term oral health.

Types of Dental Bridges

Traditional Bridges

The most common type, traditional bridges use crowns on the teeth on either side of the gap to support a false tooth in between. They are usually made from porcelain fused to metal or ceramic.

Resin-Bonded Bridges

These use metal or porcelain “wings” bonded to adjacent teeth. Often, they are used for front teeth and are less invasive than traditional bridges.

Cantilever Bridges

Used when there are teeth on only one side of the gap. Cantilever bridges are less commonly used in the back of the mouth.

Temporary bridges or CEREC bridges may allow same-day placement, though most bridges require multiple visits.

No, bridges sit on the gums and do not restore bone. Implants are the preferred option for bone preservation.
While bridges are durable, they are not permanent and may need replacement or maintenance after 10–15 years.

Dental bridges are ideal for patients who:

  • Are missing one or more teeth
  • Have healthy adjacent teeth to support the bridge
  • Want a fixed, non-removable solution instead of dentures

Patients with significant bone loss or gum disease may need alternative treatments like implants.

Yes. Dental bridges restore the appearance of missing teeth, help maintain facial structure, and prevent remaining teeth from shifting. They improve both function and aesthetics.

Caring for a dental bridge is similar to natural teeth:

  • Brush twice a day and floss daily (special floss may be needed under the pontic)
  • Avoid chewing very hard foods on the bridge
  • Visit dentist regularly for check-ups and professional cleaning
