Tis’ the season for beautiful white snowfalls! If you’ve ever looked at that beautiful freshly fallen snow and wished your teeth had the same sparkle, these three tips can help! Getting your winter white smile may be much easier than you think!

Regular Dental Hygiene
Taking care of your teeth regularly isn’t just to keep up with oral health. If you don’t brush and floss your teeth on a regular basis, you’ll start to notice staining and discolouration. Regular dental hygiene also creates a solid foundation so if you’re interested in cosmetic procedures, you can ensure a good base will produce effects that last longer due to healthy teeth and gums.

Seeing your dentist on a regular basis is also a vital part of a regular dental hygiene routine. Brushing and flossing won’t take care of all the plaque and tartar that may be on your teeth which is why your dentist plays an important role to easily remove all that plaque and tartar.

Avoiding Foods that Stain
The foods you eat can have a huge impact on your oral health. While we all know to avoid processed foods and foods with high sugar content but sometimes seemingly harmless foods can have a significant impact on the colour of your teeth.

  • Pop is loaded with sugar and high fructose corn syrup that will wreak havoc on your teeth but it’s also incredibly acidic, which can make your teeth vulnerable to staining. The acid breaks down your enamel, which then allows other staining foods to do damage.
  • Coffee and tea are also highly acidic and can cause the same amount of damage as pop. The dark colour of coffee (and certain tea blends) can cause staining on its own, especially if you drink it frequently
  • Food dye that can be found in a variety of foods like candy or popsicles can cause a lot of staining
  • Berries might be a healthy food choice but they’re high in chromogens, which latch on to your teeth and cause staining.
